Muskoka Bay Resort, a part of the Freed Hotels and Resorts hotel group is looking to add a General Manager to the leadership team. This is a key leadership role, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer for Freed Hotels and Resorts, within the property and will allow the successful candidate to make a strong contribution toward achieving the organization’s business objectives. As General Manager you will be responsible for providing leadership and support for all operational functions, contributing to the financial performance, elevating the guest experience and fostering a culture that integrates with the overall Freed Hotels and Resorts culture.

As General Manager you will:

  • Provide leadership for all resort-hotel operations, focusing on guest satisfaction, associate satisfaction and organizational satisfaction.

  • Develop, implement and ensure compliance with resort-hotel policies, procedures, SOPs, systems and service standards to improve business operations.

  • Review and implement, as required, metrics to monitor guest and employee satisfaction in addition to operational performance.

  • Lead all strategic initiatives, including capital projects, refurbishment and customer service.

  • Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the resort-hotel’s annual Operating Budget, Marketing & Sales Plan and Capital Budget

  • Ensure operational excellence for resort-hotel; providing support, feedback and guidance to team leaders to ensure the highest levels of guest satisfaction.

  • Act as role model upholding Freed Hotel and Resorts values and vision and providing guidance on company culture.

  • Support and guide the selection and development of management team members for the property.

  • Collaborate with human resources focusing on positioning Muskoka Bay Resort as an employer of choice for hospitality/culinary students, graduates and seasoned industry veterans alike.

  • Collaborate with marketing focusing on developing the resort-hotel and Freed Hotel & Resorts Ltd. “signature brand” signifying world class amenities and services.

  • Collaborate with Revenue/Reservations team ensuring hotel and conference targets are being met and are competitive to market.

 

Our ideal candidate meets the following criteria:

  • Degree/Diploma in a related field from an accredited university / college plus at least five (5) years of related experience.

  • Experience working with both branded and independent hotels in a multi-property environment.

  • Lifestyle experience preferred as is familiarity with golf and ski resorts.

  • Experience with launching of new concept resort/hotel or other hospitality operation, an asset.

  • Proven ability in building and inspiring strong teams and developing direct reports as well as positively influencing all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated P&L experience coupled with ability to analyze and interpret complex documents including financial reports and legal documents.

  • Compelling communication skills and ability to provide succinct, actionable guidance, feedback and corrective action.

  • Engaging presentation skills.

  • Skilled at defining challenges, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions followed by actionable steps.

  • Ability to identify market trends and adjust business strategy as needed.

  • Sense of urgency and ability to instill competitive tension amongst business units.
